Hot, Wet, Cold then hot again and the Million Dollar Highway

Woke up and went to Black Canyon National Park. The temperature in Montrose started out nice but got much hotter as the day went on. We will post pictures of  the Black Canyon but they do not indicate it's magnificence. This is a preview of Canyon's to come. The Black Canyon is 2800 feet down at its deepest point with the average depth of 2400 ft. To give this perspective, You could set the Eiffel Tower on top of the old world trade center and just reach the edge. It became a national park in 1989.

Now on to the Million Dollar Highway US 550 from Montrose Co. to Durango Co. This highway is ranked in the top five scenic highways in the country. After riding the highway I agree. Colorado's changes in the weather and terrain is unbelievable. We started out in the 60's, after Black Canyon it was near 90. When we got to Ouray it started to rain, it was in the 50's, cold.

Tomorrow Moab

  1. Beautiful scenery! I remember our trips through Colorado and seeing it through your eyes makes me want to go back! I forget what a diverse state it is ;-). It is fun to ride along side both of you!
