Last Day in Colorado

Started the day heading to Mesa Verde National Park. Becky's nerves were a little frayed. Her fear of heights and climbing were going to be tested. When began climbing up a 20 mile winding and mountainous road. Check out first picture, Becky trying to show no fear.

Climbing up a 32 ft. ladder with a 500 ft drop off if you fell off.
Lets begin by giving a little history of the Mesa Verda Puebleo Indian dwellings. They carved out their living quarters on the side of these cliffs. In order to get to their homes there is climbing, hiking and squeezing through tunnels. They did this to protect themselves from other Indians.
This is the inside of their dwellings carved out by hand.
Done in the 1700's

Was totally exhausted  winded and very happy it was over.

  1. Ok, I'm so proud of you all. Pretty sure that would have been way to scary for me. It looks beautiful in the pictures once you got up there though, but still scary! It's hard to believe that was carved out by hand. Looking forward to Utah pictures. This is so fun...kinda like being there(without all the climbing!). Take care looking forward to Utah tomorrow. 2. We went to Mesa Verde when I was in Jr. High and it was always one of my favorite National Parks! I could never imagine them building the caves and then living in them! It is still amazing to see the pictures! I am glad you got to experience it! Now on to Utah! America the Beautiful!!! Love, Beth

  3. Mom needs to wear some sunscreen on her face (unless the redness was just from exhaustion and anxiety :)). Great pictures! Love the picture of mom giving the peace sign. Smell some sagebrush for me. Miss you guys! So glad you are having a great adventure!
