California or Bust Day 6

We are leaving Gallup and I am making an observation,  every time we enter the interstate we have to go over cattle grate. Just thought you might like to know. Back to all the rusty cars. I determined that these old rusty cars are part of route 66. They deserve to stay.
This is what we saw when we entered Arizona. Amazing isn't it.

First stop Holbrook AZ. This is the Tee Pee Motel, when route 66 was at its peak this was a popular place to stay and still is.

The view coming into Flagstaff, awesome.

When we left this morning it was very chilly. By the time we got to the base of the mountains it was hot. Then the elevation changed as we approached Flagstaff and the temperature changed to very comfortable. Tidbit of information, there were lots of Ponderosa Pines in this area. One of our new friends told us that the trees are male and female. The way to tell the difference is to scratch the bark and smell. Females smell like Butterscotch and the males smell like vanilla.

This is another hot spot the Jack Rabbit Trading Post. The only building left.

Next stop Philip's favorite site so far. "Standing on the Corner" in Winslow Arizona.

Next stop was Twisters in the booming town of Williams Az.

Picture above is miles of desolate land.
We enter California tomorrow. This part of our journey is almost over. We can't believe how fast the trip is going.

Keep those comments coming.

I'm with Philip, that "standin on the corner" is pretty groovy ( groovy was ok to say back then)! Can't believe you are going to be in California today. Enjoy and be safe! Love you, Kathy
