Craters of the Moon National Park

Our first stop this morning was the falls of the snake river. Hence the name Idaho Falls. A very pleasant surprise. Once we passed a few potato farms we found out what Idaho was like, Flat, dry, brown, a few trees and some of the strongest winds we have ever encountered. It gave Kansas a run for its money. We were beat up by the end of the day.  In the middle of nowhere Craters of the Moon national park appeared. Somewhere in the distance past fissers developed in this area and lava flowed freely for miles. The area had not been explored and mapped until 1900's by any white man. Indians had used the area to hide from the US army in caves caused by the collapse of the lava tubes. We are now in Boise Idaho. The Idaho landscape began to improved once we arrived. Tomorrow Oregon.

  1. The Craters of the Moon looks interesting ... but Idaho not so much! I have never been there, but I just took that state off my list of "places I need to go!" Happy Trails to you! Love, Beth, Greg and Mom
