Route 66 part two day Six

Hello everyone Philip thinks it's time for me to spend 4 hours typing the blog, practice will make me better, right? Started the day at 7 headed to Erick OK. 83 degrees beautiful skies. met up with "Harley". He's a hoot, then on to an old jail site on rt. 66. The roads we have experienced this time have been awesome . I feel like I'm on a carnival ride. love it. flashed thru Texas waved to Brittany and on to New Mexico.straight into the famous crosswinds. I turned into a bobble head. The heat is something that's a drag but the spectacular views we are experiencing are worth it. We will take care. love you all. Ended the day at 103 degrees, but it's a dry heat.

Route 66 part Two Day Five

Today was mainly about riding the original route 66 road. Oklahoma has more of the original road than any other state. The road is narrow and bumpy, but considering its age it was for the most part in good condition. We stopped at some of sights on the side of the road that we did not do in 2012.

Route 66 part Two Day Four

We woke up this morning at 4:30 because of the thunder and lighting. We had not planned on another rainy day but we all know that it happens here in the Midwest so we dressed for rain. It was raining so hard at the start time that we decided to stay back and catch up with the group further down the road. As it turns out we saw things the group didn't.  The Rally Master past up a couple of places on the route due to the rain, waiting allowed us to see them. We are now in Oklahoma City with one more night in Oklahoma. We saw much more of the original road compared to our trip in 2012 so here a some pictures of the day.

Original road if you look close you will see that it is only 9 feet wide

The traffic was so bad they built a underpass under the road so people could get to town

Route 66 Part Two Day Three

We started the day with our rain suits on as some nasty thunderstorms moved through Springfield. Our first stop on the old road was a small town in Missouri called Halltown. The locals had a bake sale and of course they knew we were coming. The fire dept. shut the road down as we left and it was like the whole town came out to see us off. Next stop was a place we stopped in 2012, however the difference was the neighbor. The pictures will explain. After that we entered Kansas and stopped at the home of tow-mater one of the stars of the movie Cars. Traveled only thirteen miles in Kansas as we are in Miami Oklahoma.

The neighbor had 14 Corvairs

Route 66 part Two Day Two

We only visited three places on the orginal route 66 today. First, a Harley dealership on route 66 opened up early and provided breakfast. We bought a couple of t-shirts and stayed there for about an hour. Next we stopped at Bob's gasoline alley. Without a doubt this guy had more memorabilia than any place I have ever seen. He is located on a remote road right off the orginal route 66. The third stop was a a castle in Springfield.Missouri.

Route 66 part Two

We have started our trip down Route 66 for the second time. The rally group we are with will last 4 days longer than the first time so hopefully we we see more of the old road. We hope that the images we post help define the Mother Road. Thanks for following along.

We got to cross the bridge which has been closed for years.

Saying goodbye to an old friend

I have a friend who is into collector cars. He had owned some of the nicest cars, over time he had traded or sold every one of them. I asked him one time if he ever regretted selling some of the rare and spectacular cars he had owned. We are talking about over 30 cars. His response took me by surprise, he said "unlike you guys I don't adopt them like you do." The rest of us have owned the same cars for decades in some cases. I'm one of those guys. Well today I broke the mold of keeping a favorite vehicle forever, and as stupid as it may sound it made me very sad. Today I traded my old faithful Harley. This blog has shown that we have crossed the country many times on that bike but today its gone. I traded it in on a new Harley and I hope the memories that it helps create are as good as the last Harley. It has a high bar to match.

Owned since 2008 last day
